Cross Trophy resumes at The Oaks and Sandburn Hall

The Oaks and Sandburn Hall were the venues as the Cross Trophy resumed.

New prize structures were in place - with an overall winner on the day and remaining awards split into approximately two equal divisions based on aggregate handicaps.

Although some competitors were confused by the new scoreboard display, some positive comments were also received for the extended handicap range and the new prize structure.

Scoring must have been easy at The Oaks.

Only four of the 68 pairs were over par and, in division one, Heworth pair Dave Mills and John Smith won with a score of 60.

Club mates Jim Batt and Andy Wright were fourth on countback with 63. In between, also with 63s, were Malton & Norton’s Paul and Dave Marsay and Fulford’s Sam and Mal Pepper.

In Division 2, teeing off last, Wayne Greenhaigh and Paul Varley (York) took top spot with a score of 62, matched by Mark Mattison and Howard Bramley (Scarthingwell) in second.

Aldwark Manor claimed the 3rd and 4th spots with 62s from Jez Stewart and Dave Knott and Chris Lennox and Tony Bennet.

The overall prize went to Easingwold’s Graham Herbert and Wayne Clark thanks to a superb 58.

At Sandburn Hall, 63 was the overall winning score with Clive Forster and Dave Pittman (Aldwark Manor) taking the overall prize on countback ahead of Jamie Miller and Henry Wharton (Fulford), who collected 1st place in Division 1.

Just behind them, with 64s, were Kevin Bramley and Dave Hudson (Pike Hills) along with Rob Pickup and Tim Bramhall (Malton & Norton).

Trevor Boddison and David Lines (Easingwold) took 4th place in Division 1.

Malton & Norton claimed another two prizes in Division 2. Dennis Leng and Lee Bellion topped the list with 66, with Keith Davies and A Russel in fourth. S Aylett and D Sykes took second for Heworth, with York’s father and son Peter and Neil Ferguson in 3rd.

In the aggregate table for the Trophy, Heworth retain their lead and now have a 3 stroke lead over Pike Hills.

A good weekend for both Easingwold and Malton & Norton sees them share 3rd place - eight strokes behind the leaders. Forest Park fell from second place to join Fulford in 5th.
