Damon Coulson wins York Amateur Championship

Damon Coulson is the York Union of Golf Clubs' Amateur Champion.

The Fulford stalwart, who made his Yorkshire debut the previous day, shot successive 68s on his home course to edge past club mate Will Pepper by two shots.

Coulson came in at eight under par and overhauled Pepper, who led following the morning round and shot 71 in the afternoon.

Pike Hills' Alistair Smith shot rounds of 70 and 72 to finish third.

Fulford filled seven of the first eight places with Chris Ramsey, Jamie Miller, Rob Whiteley, George Robson and Richard Cass also putting in notable performances.

But it was Coulson who finished top of the tree and bagged his second Amateur crown, following his first victory in 2014.

Fulford also dominated the Seward Trophy, with history made by the winner.

Hannah Kelly's nett 68 saw her become first lady in 60 years to win the competition - her score one shot too good for Nick Audsley.

George Robson made it a Fulford 1-2-3 with a nett 70 to finish third and, again, it was home club juniors who filled much of the top 10.

Malton & Norton's Christina Rumbelow was fourth with 72 with Tom Kelly, Jodie Himsworth and George Strachan among those close behind for the hosts.
