York Union of Golf Clubs

Fulford crowned Union scratch league champions

Fulford have been crowned division one champions of the York Union of Golf Clubs' Scratch League.

The Heslington club whitewashed Kirkbymoorside 8-0 in their final match to take the title but were pushed all the way by York 'A', who finished only seven points behind.

Malton & Norton and Kirkbymoorside were relegated to division 2. Fulford's success was all the more remarkable given they lost two of their first three games.

In division two, Heworth lost 5-3 to York 'B' in their closing game but still were crowned champions - by just two points from The Oaks 'B', who beat Forest Park 6-2 to finish their season and will also be promoted to division one.

The number of teams in each division (six and eight) will remain the same for 2018 unless the Union receives further entries or teams drop out.

If there are nine teams in division two then the team that finished third this year (Forest Park) will also be promoted to division one.

In the unlikely event there are two more teams than this year (making a total of 16), then a play-off will be arranged between Malton & Norton (fifth in division one) and York 'B' (fourth in division two) to decide which will be the eighth team in division one.

With the change to York Union competition entry requirements, all members with a CONGU competition handicap recorded on CDH may play in any York Union event next year, including the scratch leagues, if they meet entry requirements.

As long as their own club gives permission, this includes 5-day and similar classes of member as well as 'away' players. However, a player who is a member at two or more York Union clubs can only represent or enter competitions via their 'home' club - the club that maintains their handicap.
