Tom Pyman, York Union Junior Champion 2021

12 Juniors battled through 36 holes of high winds and a long course affected by 3 days of solid rain with great perseverance and obvious ability at Scarthingwell GC.

Kindly started off by SGC Captain Mark Mattison and PGA Pro, Tony Howarth, play went very quickly through the morning and had the last group off leading the best 3 gross scores after the first 18 holes. Tom Pyman shot an excellent 1 under, 71, with Sam Norman 4 behind (75) and Matt Dolling a further 2 shots (77)

In the afternoon, Sam made an early birdie and maybe a challenge to Tom was on the cards. However, showing his typical steel, Tom played the front nine in level par 35 and again, he didn't give any chance of an opening for others with 2 birdies, 5 pars and 2 bogies on the back nine to close out a level par round of 72.

Tom's combined rounds of 71, 72 for a score of 143 thereby comfortably held off runner up Matt Dolling (153) and Sam Norman (154) and adds his name to a long list of Junior Champions, many of who went on to become professionals and play in elite competitions. There is no doubt Tom will follow this path!

Junior Championship Past Winners

Ahead of the more senior, juniors, it was great to see some of the younger boys enjoy the challenge and pick up prizes with the best nett prizes, in particular Scarthingwell member, Max Hollinghurst and George Walker of Malton & Norton.

A socially distanced presentation took place with our York Union President, Mike Ward and IDU Boys Manager Dave Richmond in attendance.

Again, our thanks go to the parents, spectators, our Sponsors Why Queue and Scarthingwell GC for their hospitality and course presentation after a difficult weeks weather.
